Tokyo Station is the main Shinkansen hub and one of Japan’s most important transport interchanges. From Haneda, the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa, then JR is the fastest and most reliable route.
Tokyo Station matters because it is where the Tokaido Shinkansen departs for Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima. Arriving at Haneda and needing to reach Tokyo Station for a Shinkansen connection is one of the most common airport-to-city journeys in Japan. The route is straightforward but involves one transfer.
Quick answer: Keikyu Line from Haneda International Terminal to Shinagawa Station (13 minutes, 330 yen), then JR Yamanote or Keihin-Tohoku Line from Shinagawa to Tokyo Station (10 minutes, 200 yen). Total about 37 minutes, around 530 yen plus the Keikyu airport surcharge. Load your Suica before leaving the airport.
Option 1: Keikyu Line to Shinagawa, then JR (Recommended)
- Step 1: From Haneda International Terminal arrivals, follow the signs to the railway. The Keikyu Line and Tokyo Monorail share the basement level.
- Step 2: Board the Keikyu Line (red trains) toward Shinagawa/Asakusa direction. The Airport Express (エアポート急行) is the fastest option, stopping at fewer stations.
- Step 3: 13 to 18 minutes to Shinagawa Station, depending on service.
- Step 4: At Shinagawa, transfer to the JR Yamanote Line (green) or the Keihin-Tohoku Line (blue) toward Tokyo/Ueno. Two stops to Tokyo Station.
- Step 5: About 8 minutes from Shinagawa to Tokyo Station.
Total time: About 35 to 40 minutes.

Option 2: Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, then JR
- Tokyo Monorail: From Haneda to Hamamatsucho Station, about 23 minutes, 500 yen
- JR from Hamamatsucho: Two stops to Tokyo Station on the Keihin-Tohoku Line, about 7 minutes, 170 yen
Total: About 35 to 40 minutes. Similar to the Keikyu route. The Monorail offers better views of the bay and urban landscape.
Option 3: Taxi
Taxis from Haneda to Tokyo Station take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic, and cost approximately 5,000 to 8,000 yen. The expressway toll adds around 1,000 yen. Useful with heavy luggage or arriving very late. The train is faster and cheaper during normal hours.
From Tokyo Station
Tokyo Station is the departure point for the Tokaido Shinkansen to Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima, and the Tohoku Shinkansen to northern Japan. The station is large, allowing 10 to 15 minutes to navigate from the arrivals gates to the Shinkansen platforms. JR Pass holders should head to the JR Pass Exchange Office or the green window (みどりの窓口) in the main station to reserve Shinkansen seats.
