Shibuya is one of Tokyo’s most popular bases. Getting there from Narita takes around 90 minutes by the fastest public transport options. Here is the honest comparison.
Shibuya sits in west-central Tokyo, around 60 kilometres from Narita International Airport. Several efficient options connect the two; the key is understanding which involves transfers and whether those transfers suit your luggage situation.
Quick answer: Keisei Skyliner to Nippori, then JR Yamanote Line to Shibuya, around 80 minutes total, approximately 2,850 yen. Or N’EX direct to Shibuya around 90 minutes, 3,070 yen, no changes. Both are excellent.
Option 1: Keisei Skyliner + JR Yamanote Line (Fastest, Best Value)
- Keisei Skyliner from Narita to Nippori: 41 minutes, 2,520 yen
- JR Yamanote Line from Nippori to Shibuya: About 35 minutes, around 220 yen (Suica)
- Total time: Around 80 minutes
- Total cost: Around 2,740 yen
The Yamanote Line runs in a loop around central Tokyo, stopping at every major station. From Nippori, take the inner loop (clockwise) through Ueno, Akihabara, Shinjuku, and Shibuya, around 35 minutes. This route is faster and cheaper than the N’EX, and the single transfer at Nippori is simple and well-signed.
Option 2: N’EX (Narita Express) Direct to Shibuya
- Journey time: Around 90 minutes direct
- Cost: 3,070 yen
- JR Pass: Covered free for pass holders with free seat reservation
Some N’EX services run directly to Shibuya without requiring a change. Check the timetable carefully, not all N’EX services stop at Shibuya. Option 3: Airport Limousine Bus
Direct buses from Narita to Shibuya Mark City Bus Terminal. Journey time is 80 to 120 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs around 3,100 yen. Luggage goes in the hold, convenient for heavy bags. Subject to traffic delays during rush hours.
Option 4: Taxi
Around 20,000 to 28,000 yen and 60 to 90 minutes. Only practical for large groups who split the cost.
Get Your Suica Card at Narita
