Tokyo Station is Japan’s main rail hub, the departure point for Shinkansen to Kyoto, Osaka, and most of Japan. Getting there from Narita directly is the most important first journey for many visitors.
Tokyo Station sits in the centre of the city and is the starting point for the Tokaido Shinkansen to Kyoto and Osaka. Arriving at Tokyo Station from Narita puts you exactly where you need to be to settle into the city and continue on to other destinations. The N’EX is the most direct connection.
Quick answer: N’EX direct from Narita to Tokyo Station: 55 minutes, 3,070 yen, JR Pass valid. Or Keisei Skyliner to Nippori (41 min) then JR Yamanote to Tokyo Station (5 min): around 60 minutes total, approximately 2,750 yen. Both are excellent.
Option 1: N’EX (Narita Express) Direct
- Journey time: 55 minutes Narita Terminal 1 to Tokyo Station
- Cost: 3,070 yen one way
- JR Pass: Fully covered. Reserve a free seat at the JR counter.
- Frequency: Every 30 to 60 minutes. Confirm the service is going to Tokyo Station; some N’EX services go to Shinjuku or Shibuya instead.
The N’EX is the fastest and most comfortable direct option. Reserved seating, large luggage areas, and air conditioning. Buy at the JR ticket counter or machines in the Narita arrivals hall.
Option 2: Keisei Skyliner + JR Yamanote
- Keisei Skyliner from Narita to Nippori: 41 minutes, 2,520 yen
- JR Yamanote Line from Nippori to Tokyo Station: 5 minutes, around 160 yen
- Total time: Around 55 to 60 minutes
- Total cost: Around 2,680 ye,n 390 yen cheaper than the N’EX
The Skyliner is faster to Nippori than the N’EX is to Tokyo Station, and the Yamanote adds only 5 minutes. This combination is cheaper than the N’EX and just as fast. The transfer at Nippori is well-signed and takes about 5 minutes on foot.
Option 3: Airport Limousine Bus
- Journey time: 70 to 100 minutes (traffic dependent)
- Cost: Around 3,100 yen
- Drop-off: Tokyo Station Yaesu exit directly outside the Shinkansen gates
Good for heavy luggage. Subject to traffic delays during peak hours.
