Myeongdong is central Seoul’s most popular visitor neighbourhood, with shopping, street food, K-beauty, and easy access to the palace area. Here is how to get there from Gimpo Airport.
Gimpo Airport sits in western Seoul, and Myeongdong is in the central Jongno district. The journey involves one subway transfer and takes around 40 to 50 minutes total. It is one of the more straightforward airport-to-neighbourhood connections in Seoul once you know which lines to take.
Quick answer: Line 9 from Gimpo Airport Station to Nonhyeon (express, about 20 min), transfer to Line 7 north to Namdaemun (City Hall area), walk 10 minutes to Myeongdong. Total around 40 minutes, under 2,000 won with T-money. Or: AREX to Seoul Station, taxi to Myeongdong (10 min, around 5,000 won).
Option 1: Subway via Line 9 (Recommended)
The most efficient route uses Line 9 (gold line), which departs directly from Gimpo Airport Station.
- Step 1: From the Gimpo Airport arrivals hall, follow signs to the subway. Board Line 9 (gold) toward Bongeunsa/Central.
- Step 2: Take the Line 9 Express train to Nonhyeon Station (about 20 minutes). Express trains run every 10 to 15 minutes and skip several stops. Check the overhead display before boarding.
- Step 3: At Nonhyeon, transfer to Line 7 (olive green). Take Line 7 two stops north to the Express Bus Terminal, then continue to Namdaemun (City Hall area). Alternatively, transfer to Line 2 at the Express Bus Terminal toward City Hall.
- Step 4: Alight at City Hall Station (Line 2) and walk south approximately 10 minutes to Myeongdong’s main shopping street.
Total time: About 40 to 50 minutes,s including transfer waiting time.

Option 2: AREX to Seoul Station, then walk or take a taxi
The Airport Railroad (AREX) runs from Gimpo Airport to Seoul Station in about 25 minutes.
- AREX to Seoul Station: About 25 minutes, around 1,750 won with T-money.
- From Seoul Station to Myeongdong: A 15-minute walk northeast, or a taxi for around 5,000 won (5 minutes). This is particularly convenient if your accommodation is near Seoul Station or the Namdaemun Market area.
Option 3: Taxi
Taxis are available outside the Gimpo Airport arrivals exits. The metered journey to Myeongdong takes about 30 to 40 minutes in normal traffic and costs approximately 20,000 to 28,000 won. During the morning rush hour (8 am to 9:30 am) or the evening rush (6 pm to 8 pm), the journey can take 50 to 60 minutes.
