Korea Visa Bank Statement Requirements 2026: What to Show

Your bank statement is the most scrutinized document in a Korean tourist visa application. Here is exactly what Korean embassies look for, what format to use, and how much is enough.

Financial evidence is the most common reason for visa rejection in Korea. Korean embassies use bank statements to assess whether you can fund your stay without needing to work illegally and whether you are likely to overstay. Understanding what makes statements strong or weak is directly actionable before applying.

Format Requirements

  • Period: Most Korean embassies require 3 to 6 months of statements. Use 6 months whenever possible; more history is always better.
  • Bank stamp: Statements should be original or certified copies stamped by the bank, or official bank-generated digital statements printed on bank letterhead. Personal screenshots from banking apps are usually not accepted.
  • Language: Statements in languages other than Korean or English should be accompanied by a certified translation.
  • Account type: Personal savings or current account. Investment accounts, pension funds, or credit card statements are less useful as primary evidence, though they can serve as supplementary evidence.

How Much Balance Is Enough

Korean embassies do not publish an official minimum balance figure. The general guideline used by immigration practitioners and visa agents:

  • Rough minimum: Funds equivalent to around 100,000 Korean won (approximately 100 to 115 CAD) per day of intended stay, accessible as liquid savings.
  • Example (10-day trip): 1,000,000 won equivalent (around 1,000-1,150 CAD) in accessible savings.

This is a floor, not a ceiling. More is better. The embassy is assessing your overall financial position and travel credibility, not just applying a formula.

What Makes Statements Look Strong

  • Consistent regular income: Regular salary deposits on a predictable schedule (weekly or monthly) show stable employment. This is the single strongest financial signal.
  • Stable, growing balance: A balance maintained or grown over the past 6 months suggests financial stability.
  • Clean transaction history: Normal spending patterns for your lifestyle regular bills, groceries, occasional entertainment look natural. Erratic patterns raise questions.

What Makes Statements Look Weak

  • Large recent deposits: A large cash deposit shortly before the application looks like borrowed money. Banks are aware of this, and so are embassies. If you have recently received a large legitimate payment, have a supporting document to explain it.
  • Low or zero balance through most of the period: Even if the current balance is high, a history of very low balances suggests the current funds are temporary.
  • Frequent large unexplained transfers: These suggest the account may not represent your actual financial position.

Supplementing the Bank Statement

If your bank statement alone is not strong, supplement it with:

  • Employment certificate with salary stated: Shows your earning capacity beyond the current account balance.
  • Tax returns or income certificate: Official income documentation from the government authority in your country.
  • Property ownership documents: Property in your home country demonstrates financial stability and strong ties to return.
