Jeonju is not directly served by KTX without a connection, making the route slightly more complex than the Seoul-to-Busan or Seoul-to-Gyeongju options. The express bus is competitive and arrives more centrally. Here is the full comparison.
Quick answer: Express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Gangnam) to Jeonju Express Bus Terminal. About 2 hours, around 11,900 won. The most direct and convenient option for most travelers, arriving in central Jeonju.
Option 1: Express Bus (Recommended)
- Departure: Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Gangnam) or Seoul Central City Terminal (Gangnam)
- Arrival: Jeonju Express Bus Terminal (central Jeonju, about 15 minutes’ walk or short taxi to Hanok Village)
- Journey time: About 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on traffic and service
- Cost: Around 11,900 won one way
- Frequency: Multiple departures per hour throughout the day from approximately 6 am to 11 pm
- Booking: At the terminal counter or on kobus.co.kr. Walk-up is usually fine except on holiday weekends.
The express bus is the standard recommendation for the Seoul-to-Jeonju route. It arrives at Jeonju’s central bus terminal, which is significantly closer to the Hanok Village and the main sights than the train alternatives.
Option 2: KTX to Iksan, then Local Train or Bus
- KTX from Seoul Station to Iksan: About 1 hour 10 minutes, around 21,500 won
- Local connection Iksan to Jeonju: Local train about 15 minutes (1,500 won) or city bus about 30 minutes
- Total time: About 1 hour 30 to 45 minutes
- Total cost: Around 23,000 to 24,000 won
Faster than the bus, but arrives at Jeonju Station (the older part of the city; requires transportation to the Hanok Village area). The Iksan connection adds complexity for first-time visitors. Worth it if speed is the priority.
Option 3: KTX to Iksan, then Bus
Alternatively, from Iksan Station, take the intercity bus directly to Jeonju for around 1,200 won and about 25 minutes. This avoids the local train connection and is slightly more flexible in departure timing.
Getting Around Jeonju
Jeonju Hanok Village is about 3 kilometres from Jeonju Station and about 1.5 kilometres from the Express Bus Terminal. City buses serve both terminals with routes to the Hanok Village area. Taxis from the bus terminal to the Hanok Village entrance cost around 5,000 to 7,000 won and take about 10 minutes.
